PE vs PVC

YATO heat shrink tubes with solder are made of polyethylene (PE), the appropriate amount of solder, and hot glue rings. There are many advantages of PE tubes over PVC tubes, with the most important being:

• Higher shrink ratio: PE is 3 to 1, PVC is 2 to 1. Better wraps around the wire or allows the use of a tube with a larger diameter, making it easier to slide onto the wire.
• Maintains flexibility even in negative temperatures. PVC becomes stiff in the cold and is prone to cracking.
• Higher resistance to abrasion, punctures, and chemicals.

PE tubes are suitable not only for home use but also where we must consider atmospheric factors such as negative temperatures or the need to work in a heated environment (e.g., in a car under a heated body or close to the engine). The amount of solder in YATO heat shrink tubes allows for a proper soldered connection. The tin spreads between the wires, ensuring a strong and correct connection. Cheaper tubes use minimal amounts of tin, which can be insufficient for long-lasting and reliable operation, especially with larger cross-sections. The last important aspect is the sealing glue. YATO tubes use a specially formulated, well-known, and battle-tested hot glue. After curing, it retains a degree of flexibility and does not crumble over time. Some cheap tubes use EVA plastic, which does seal and cover the connection when heated. However, over time, especially in areas exposed to atmospheric factors, the material crumbles and degrades.
