Definitions

• IR radiation - every object emits corresponding infrared radiation depending on its current temperature. An IR thermometer focuses this radiation on an infrared sensor, which first converts it into heat and then into electrical energy. The energy value is then read and converted into temperature indication. The entire process in YATO pyrometers takes no longer than 0.5 seconds.
• Emissivity - a parameter that determines an object's ability to emit thermal radiation. Most organic, painted, and oxidized materials have an emissivity coefficient of 0.95, which is the factory setting. However, some materials like lead or aluminum have significantly lower emissivity, so if a measurement as close to reality as possible is needed, the emissivity parameter should be set to the appropriate value for the specific material. Emissivity tables can be found in scientific literature or on the Internet.
• High and low temperature alarm - a useful function, for example, in locating thermal bridges on cold days. Measure the temperature in the middle of the wall to get a reference point, then depending on the outside temperature, set the low temperature alarm a few degrees lower. The next step is to measure the temperature in places where thermal bridges most commonly occur, such as wall-ceiling joints, around window frames, etc. If the temperature reading falls below the set alarm value, you will hear an audible signal and see an additional indication on the display.
• Measurement accuracy - the optics and control electronics in YATO pyrometers ensure high accuracy and repeatability of measurements. However, due to many variables independent of the manufacturer, including humidity and ambient temperature at the measurement locations, it is impossible to calibrate the device to achieve 100% accuracy in all conditions. The manufacturer declares a measurement error of +-1.5°C in ambient temperatures from 0°C to 40°C for surface temperature measurements above 0°C. This means that with the correct emissivity setting, a measurement result of 100°C should be interpreted as a value in the range of 101.5-98.5°C.
